PX90 Review: My tail bone is raw

The ab exercises do a lot of wear and tare on my tail bone. I’m going to have to get some upper ass padding to keep it at bay. PX90 workout was solid tonight and for the first time ever I actually enjoyed ab ripper x. I waited 2 hours in between chest and back and ab ripper x.

Today was a long day. Didn’t really sleep last night. Had a lot on my mind. Went flying (I fly little planes) this morning.  Had a 4+ hour meeting. Came home, worked out, watched Dexter from last night, ate some fish a little while ago. Doing work now. About to go watch some tv and hit the hay.

PX90 Reviews: Back in the saddle

I’ve decided to give it another shot. There has a been a few changes in my life that has made me stop and realize that I need to complete the PX90. While meditating the other day it came to me as clear as day that many of the things I want for myself can be obtained, physical, mental and spiritual, through performing and completing the workout. My approaches during the last few rounds, over the past year, have been to half ass it, skip days, continue eating shit and lying to people who read this blog (in the sense that I’m not giving it my all). I’ve been trying to get through the P90X workout for the wrong reasons.

I did chest and back yesterday and plyometrics today. I modified moves heavily today and skipped a few yesterday as well as today. My hip issue I discussed early this summer is still around. Not as pronounced as it was then, but enough to notice while doing certain exercises. Dive Bombers, crunchy frog, chair swing, and hot foot are a few examples of unneeded pressure on my hips… so I eliminated them and in there absence I did hip stretches.

I’m not going to write in this blog every day. It might not even be consistent. I’m going to write when I feel inspired to write. This blog should be for me first, maybe that sounds selfish but for right now I need to be doing this for me. I welcome anybody’s comments and concerns. Food suggestions would be great. I actually read the P90X nutrition guide a few days ago. I’m not much of a cook so I’m a little worried that the eating side is going to get old quickly. However, that’s another thing I need to do in my life. I’m  28 years old and I eat like I’m in college. All my friends around me cook great health meals. Yet I’m stuck on pasta and jarred red sauce and microwaveable pizzas. I get delivery and go out to restaurants all the time. I spend more money on food each month than any other expense. I’ve made myself believe that I can’t cook when in reality I’ve never tried. I’m going to do my best to learn how to cook. The 90 day workout is going to be 90 days of simplifying my life, growing up and taking responsibility.

I’m off to shower and finish my chocolate milk. My mother sent me an article in the mail about drinking chocolate milk within 1 hour of completing a workout. Makes sense because my old workout partner (who was a trainer at one point) use to drink chocolate milk before and after working out. Something about Carbs and Protein.

Until next time,  I don’t know when that will be, be good and be safe.

PX90 Reviews: Kenpo X

I did Kenpo X yesterday morning. I I always enjoyed the workout because it was the only one that went by the quickest. The PX90 program is great, however at this point I just need to be doing something. If I do Kenpo 3 times a week that’s better than nothing. right?

PX90 Reviews: It’s been awhile

Hello gang. Well after no hiking this summer and no working out my hip doesn’t bother me but then again I’m not doing anything to warrant discomfort. I did Chest and Back last Monday and then Shoulders and Arms last Wed of the PX90 for old time sakes. I think this blog is probably going to go to the way side unless I either get a dose of… I want to work out or I find somebody to take over the blog for me.

Looks like I failed the PX90. Not me not now that’s what I’m saying to this workout for now. Maybe one day I’ll pick it up again. So until then, good luck to all of you who attempt and complete the program.

PX90 Hip Update

I went to the hip doctor again yesterday. That was the third time I’ve gone. Since the first time my flexibility and hip strength has greatly increased. I walked on a treadmill for 15 minutes at an 8% grade without incident. The odd thing was that my right glutes, the lower part of my right butt cheek, felt odd. It didn’t hurt it felt as though I was doing lunges. The physical therapist said I was feeling that because up until now (and from the time I hurt my hip) I haven’t been using that muscle. I’ve been walking in a non productive, and rather destructive, manor. That’s crazy!

So the PX90 has been on hold for nearly a month now as I haven’t wanted to agitate my hip. The doctor told me yesterday that I should go on a moderate hike to see what happens. Yay! I replied. So early next week I’m going hiking, assuming all goes well I’ll start on phase II (week 5) of PX90 in a week or so.

I’m looking forward to getting back to it. I finally got my spare AC back from my friend, so doing workouts in 90 degree weather shouldn’t pose a problem.

PX90 on Hold, Doctors recommendation

I went to a physical therapist last week regarding my hip. I had never been to one before so the whole thing was new to me. The doctor examined my back as I attempted to touch my toes, “Oh geesh” she said. Then she told me to raise my left knee to my chest, then the right. “Hmm”, she sighed. At this point I asked her what the problem was. She explained that a muscle near my tail bone, on the right side, was locked up. This would certainly cause strain to both the right and left hip.

She had me lie on this hard bed as she tested the strength of my hips and legs. After about 5 minutes of that my right hip was hurting. She did some maneuvers to “unlock” the locked muscle. Apparently that worked cause I had more range of motion when she was done.

She gave me some hip exercises to do for the next week. She also gave me some hamstring exercises. Apparently I have EXTREMELY tight hamstrings which was also aid the problem. So a few exercises to be performed multiple times a day, going back this week to get an ultra sound. The hip muscle is inflamed so something about the ultra sound will alleviate the inflammation. Quite honestly I don’t know how it all works but I do know this: She told me no hiking or unnecessary stress on the hips for a month.

The question one should ask is what is unnecessary… Well being that PX90 is extreme, I would have to think Plyometrics, the leg portion of Legs & Back, the kicking portion of Kenpo X, and Ab Ripper X are unnecessary. Starting today I’m skipping those workouts and/or routines until the doctor and/or think I am fit to continue them.

I will be substituting those workouts with Stretch X, it seems fitting that I should increase my stretching as part of the reason I’m in this mess is due to insufficient flexibility. Alas, I am angry that I have taken 2 weeks off from working out and now I am on the injured list. I can’t hike. Boo Hoo.

PX90 Review: Bad Boy!

Last week my coworkers were on vacation, which flooded me with more work than usual. I only did my workout on Monday. I skipped yesterday and today. This week I have no excuses. I’m going to pick back up with back and biceps tomorrow, I’ll finish the rest of the px90 workouts but I’m gonna treat this as a void week. Next week I’ll do week 6 and continue as normal.

After much nagging from my hiking buddy I’m going to go to a physical therapist tomorrow regarding my hip. I went to my primary a few weeks ago only to walk away with a referral. So as of now we know it isn’t fractured but that’s about it. Hopefully I leave tomorrow’s appointment with a more satisfying answer.

Pictures don’t really need to be posted cause I haven’t worked out. The pictures are just depressing cause there are no changes. I’ll post this Sunday, perhaps I’ll drench myself in baby oil to look all shiny and cut… then again I don’t think I’m going to do that.

How are you approaching the eating side of PX90?

Well I have tried using the px90 nutrition guide but I’m no cook, and the portion approach is bland at best. So here’s what I do. I eat smart. I don’t buy foods that have ingredients that I don’t recognize. I read the first half of the book In Defense of Foods which basically opened my eyes to eating what is real, and lots of it. If you eat real food, no matter how much, you’ll be ok. You ever hear of any body getting fat off eating to much salad?

Here’s an interesting thought, think of you’re typical grocery store, if you look at it from an arial view you’ll notice that the outer edge is REAL food. Produce, Meat, Dairy, and Registers to pay. All the shit in the middle is just that, shit; processed foods. That’s not to say there isn’t anything in there, but it’s a quicksand war zone. You ever notice that those aisles are an advertisers wet dream. The outer ring doesn’t have advertising and design to sell it’s product. You go by your instinct with that stuff (at least the produce and meat)… This is the point I need to interject on myself… Technically speaking any meat you find in your chain grocery store isn’t really meat. That stuff is pumped full of things you’ve never heard of either but for the sake of this conversation we are going to narrow the scope, I’m not lying when I say the outer ring is the best place to shop. Perhaps in the future we can discuss the meat dilemma.

Now I might have a few people saying ut oh, Jerry’s one of these guys. But fear not, because yesterday I went to Wendy’s and had myself a # 1 with cheese, a 5 piece nugget and small Pibb Xtra, which they so graciously upgraded to X-Large. I ate poison. I limit my soda intake to 1 cup every 6 months, or when I absolutely have to. (Grandma’s house and the choice is between sulfur well water and diet pepsi, which lesser evil would you choose if you’re lips were chapped and your throat parched?)

I’m rambling, I could talk about this for awhile and I’m thinking about a part 2 to really delve into my eating. For now to finish part 1 of this eating manifesto I’ll say this, if you eat real food and drink lot’s of water it doesn’t really matter what you eat. A funny thing about this country, we are the only over weight malnourished country in the world. How is that possible? We eat lots of shit. On that note I’m going to go make an omelet with green peppers, onions, mushrooms.

Back from Vacation

I got back from my trip Monday night. This week has been hectic playing catch up with work. Yesterday was my birthday which means today I’m hung over. I will start up week 3 of the p 90 x program next week. I’m going to drink lots of water and go back to bed now.

px90 – In Florida this week

I’m in Florida this week visiting family. My px90 workouts are going to hurt. However, I did do some pushups and stretching today, as well as two 9-hole rounds of golf. The weather was in the mid 70′s today, a little breezy, but all in all gorgeous. I’ll keep you up to date with my activities while on vacation. Oh, I’m using a dial up connection which absolutely blows. So I will be keeping my posts brief.

Summary of px90 workout: When on vacation do a few pushups.

px90 – Mother in town visiting

My mother is in town visiting. She’s actually in the other room watching Minority Report. Before she wonders where I’m off too I’ll let you know I did Yoga X this morning. Cut it down to 45 minutes like last week. I hope I’m able to complete my px90 workout tomorrow with my mom here. Gotta go, will write more tomorrow.

px90 – Week 2 – Day 3

Haven’t posted a real one this week so here it goes. This week is definitely progressing better than last week now that I’m back to it. Reps and weights across the board are higher. I’ve had more energy during the day by doing the px90 workouts in the morning. Doing them in the morning also keeps me stress free throughout the day knowing I don’t have to do it later that night. (Now if only I could post in my blog in the morning as well.) Still haven’t squared away an exact plan for T-F’s workouts but the days of 60 – 90 min workouts are gone.

Summary of px90 workout: I like doing arms.

px90 Worksheet

In my quest to compile my first week of px90 workouts I came across a nice little gem I’d like to share with all of you. Somebody who has more excel expertise than I created a very in-depth xls document which allows you to keep track of your progress. This guy/gal deserves a round of applause for making this. I’m in the progress of modifying this document to taylor my routines… it’s actually a godsend because I don’t have to recreate the wheel. I highly recommend downloading this if you are currently doing the px90 or thinking about starting.
