PX90 Reviews: Almost done with rest week

In the past my rest weeks consisted of not doing any workouts… because I don’t remember ever doing this week. First off let me tell you that Core Synergistcs is by no means a rest. It’s basically a cross training workout (chest, back, abs, legs) or as the name suggests, a core workout. This was the second day this week I did core synergistics. Tomorrow is Yoga X. Yesterday I did Stretch X, I’ve never done this px90 workout and it was good. I can definitely see the importance of rest week. It allows you to keep working out but condition your body for what lies ahead.

I’m looking forward to next week to get back into the pushups, pullups and arm training. I have a lot of stamina and strength I want to test out in the second phase of this. Oh, so Stretch X or rest can be done on your 7th day. I’m considering doing Stretch X (perhaps abridged) in place of my rest day. It’s a low key workout that keeps you active but not sweaty and sore.

I have to go, my phone is ringing.

PX90 Reviews: Kenpo X with weights

I don’t if I mentioned yesterday that when I did Kenpo X with my friend on Sunday we both used weights. He used 3 lbers and I used 1 lbers. The difference is amazing. Monday my back and arms were more sore than I can remember in a long time. I am on my first px90 rest week and today was kenpo x. I went for as long as I could using 3 lb weights. About six exercises in I had to drop down to 1 lb weights and then a few more later down to no weights. No weights = EASY!

Through out the workout I went back and forth between 3, 1 and no weights where applicable. I urge all that want to up the ante to use weights… light weights please, you’ll feel this on 3 or less.

On a side note, I feel great. I noticed I am more limber, have greater control over my balance and stamina is up. It’s amazing that I’m almost a third through.

PX90 Reviews: Busy Week, Busy Weekend

Hello all. Haven’t written in awhile. Last week I sort of dropped the ball with px90 Thursday - Saturday. Thursday I had to bring my older brother and great Aunt to the airport mid-day. This shot the work day to hell as well as my workout. Thursday evening I went to my rifle range meeting. I joined a rifle range 3 months ago but failed to attend a general membership meeting until recently. I was told the meeting was on the 1st Thursday of the month, then the 3rd, come to find out it is on the 2nd. So three weeks ago I cleared my Thursday and following Saturday (new member orientation) so nothing conflicting would occur.

So last Thursday I went to the meeting. They really should split the meeting up into two parts. Part 1: General membership meeting. Intermission. Part 2: New member meeting. I don’t think I’ll ever attend another meeting because half the time it will be 100% review. If I’m a member for 10 years do I really need to hear what the pistol club is every single month.

By the time I got home Thursday night I was too shot to do 1.5 hours of Yoga X. So I skipped it with good intentions to do it the following morning and legs and back Friday night. The next morning cameand I was swamped with work and nothing got done. I mean no Yoga X or Legs and Back. Skipping two days is usually when I stop the program. But I persevered.

Saturday morning I drove back to the rifle range for the new member orientation (tour and safety lecture). It was pouring rain. The tour in the pouring rain wasn’t the most appealing. The tour could have lasted 10 minutes but it turned into 72. After we were given our membership cards everybody took off except 3 of us. One of the new members I met the previous Thursday brought his GSG-5 with him. It’s basically an MP5 that takes 22 rounds. This makes it look cool but very cheap to shoot.

After an hour or so shooting that, trying to get the red-dot scope sighted I left to meet a friend for a movie and a few drinks. Knowing I had a dinner party to attend that night I was getting scared that I might not have a chance to do my favorite workout, Kenpo X… I didn’t. After my dinner party and playing cards with the flying rat pack I headed home around 11pm to do Yoga X. Yup you heard right. I did Yoga X from 1130 - 1am. This left me feeling exhilarated… keeping me awake until 430am.

The next day I planned on doing massive amounts of laundry and reading. That didn’t happen. I drove up to my friend Tom’s house. I did 2 loads of laundry and Kenpo X with him. Played some video games (lego starwars) with his son, ate dinner and returned home.

So I really only missed Legs and Back last week. Not so bad, considering 3 px90 workouts looked as though they would be missed. Sadly though I skipped yesterday’s workout. I had to pick my brother and Aunt up at the airport and drive them to their respective houses.

Today I did Core synergistics. I’m on my 4th week, recovery week. It was a great workout. I did well and enjoyed myself. I’m a skinny guy but I’m noticing some changes. Most of the changes aren’t visual though, they are strength and an overall feeling of well being.

Ok, I can’t write any more. I need to go eat. Bye!

PX90 Reviews: Shoulder and Arms

I just brought shoulder and arms. I did my workout hard and quick. I have to do some things tonight that would have prevented me from doing my workout, so I decided to bang it out just now. My arms are toast… in a good way! I did an abbreviated warm up, fast forwarded to the next exercise when I was done and skipped the water breaks. This saved me about 15 minutes. I’m looking forward to Yoga tomorrow. I worked hard this week and I need a good hour and a half of stretching. Well I have to shower and get out the door.

P90X Reviews: Plyometrics

I just finished px90 plyometrics with my room mate. I coaxed him into it and then warned him that he won’t be able to walk tomorrow. I definitely had much better stamina, as this is my 3rd week, and he faired quite well. He’s a big hiker and he snow boards. He actually commented that his is a great workout for snow boarding. So to all of you who snow board this is the px90 workout for you.

I need to be showered and out the door in 15 minutes. I’m about to eat rice and shrimp. Til next time, keep on bringing it.

Guns and Llamas

So this weekend was pretty good. I met a friend for breakfast Saturday morning, had eggs benedict, it was good. Early afternoon I drove to a llama farm to visit family. I was given a 22 target rifle with 3 x 9 x 32 scope, with a case, cleaning supplies and 150 rounds. Ate like a king that night and had great conversation that lasted for hours around the dinner table. I was invited to come up the following morning for brunch and shooting. I accepted.

I skipped Kenpo X on Saturday but planned to do it the following day after shooting. Sunday morning I drove back to the llama farm and had eggs, peach pancakes, bacon, sausage and juice (mimosas). More relatives were up there so after we ate we took a few guns back into the woods and shot for a few hours. It was a lot of fun.

Ironically the llama farm was very close to where my friend Tom lives. Around 3 I left to go hang out at his place. We ended up doing our px90 workout together. Afterwards we had a good conversation. Sometimes friends and family get caught up in the busyness or media sides of life. It’s good to just sit and talk. I hung out til 8ish and then drove home. Just in time to catch Dexter at 9.

So the weekend was perfect. Low key but very productive.

I just finished chest and back. All my numbers were up. It was a solid workout. I’m looking forward to having some left overs, my stomach is growling. I’ll catch you guys tomorrow.

PX90 Reviews: Peanut Butter on Wheat Bread

I never like peanut butter. Too thick in my mouth always made me gag. Knowing I had to eat something before working out this morning, and not wanting to make porridge, I tried peanut butter on wheat toast. Not Bad! Quick and painless! Protein and Carbs!

Did legs and back. Did well with it. I’m taking a little break before doing Abs. I tend to have more energy and perform better if I wait an hour after my main workout before doing the ab portion. I love working out in the morning, gives me a euphoric high all day long. And it’s Friday! Sweet!

PX90 Reviews: Thursday

Has anybody else realized that it’s warm as heck today in upstate NY. 60 degrees for November can’t be good. Walked to a few blocks to get a haircut, and the sweatshirt was too much. Freaking sweating.

I just did px90 Yoga X. Kind of glossed over some moves towards the end. I was getting antsy. It was a good workout, just long. I’m hungry. Made myself a pretty large omelet 3 hours ago, thinking of making another one, or maybe just cook some meet and veggies and leave out the eggs for simplicity.

It’s starting to rain outside… perfect nap weather. Can’t nap though because I have work to do. Eat, shower, work, nap, work, The Office, bed! That’s my plan.

PX90 Reviews: Election night and beer

I’m a little drunk. Peeps over at the house. We are watching media coverage of the election and drinking beer / wine. I had a shitty non-productive day. Meeting for 4 hours. Got home and had to do my px90 workout. Only did about half the workout. My mind was not in it. I had work on my mind, people coming over, shower, etc so I cut it short. Ok, I have to be a host. I’ll get back to you people tomorrow.

PX90 Review: My tail bone is raw

The ab exercises do a lot of wear and tare on my tail bone. I’m going to have to get some upper ass padding to keep it at bay. PX90 workout was solid tonight and for the first time ever I actually enjoyed ab ripper x. I waited 2 hours in between chest and back and ab ripper x.

Today was a long day. Didn’t really sleep last night. Had a lot on my mind. Went flying (I fly little planes) this morning.  Had a 4+ hour meeting. Came home, worked out, watched Dexter from last night, ate some fish a little while ago. Doing work now. About to go watch some tv and hit the hay.

PX90 Reviews: Back in the saddle

I’ve decided to give it another shot. There has a been a few changes in my life that has made me stop and realize that I need to complete the PX90. While meditating the other day it came to me as clear as day that many of the things I want for myself can be obtained, physical, mental and spiritual, through performing and completing the workout. My approaches during the last few rounds, over the past year, have been to half ass it, skip days, continue eating shit and lying to people who read this blog (in the sense that I’m not giving it my all). I’ve been trying to get through the P90X workout for the wrong reasons.

I did chest and back yesterday and plyometrics today. I modified moves heavily today and skipped a few yesterday as well as today. My hip issue I discussed early this summer is still around. Not as pronounced as it was then, but enough to notice while doing certain exercises. Dive Bombers, crunchy frog, chair swing, and hot foot are a few examples of unneeded pressure on my hips… so I eliminated them and in there absence I did hip stretches.

I’m not going to write in this blog every day. It might not even be consistent. I’m going to write when I feel inspired to write. This blog should be for me first, maybe that sounds selfish but for right now I need to be doing this for me. I welcome anybody’s comments and concerns. Food suggestions would be great. I actually read the P90X nutrition guide a few days ago. I’m not much of a cook so I’m a little worried that the eating side is going to get old quickly. However, that’s another thing I need to do in my life. I’m  28 years old and I eat like I’m in college. All my friends around me cook great health meals. Yet I’m stuck on pasta and jarred red sauce and microwaveable pizzas. I get delivery and go out to restaurants all the time. I spend more money on food each month than any other expense. I’ve made myself believe that I can’t cook when in reality I’ve never tried. I’m going to do my best to learn how to cook. The 90 day workout is going to be 90 days of simplifying my life, growing up and taking responsibility.

I’m off to shower and finish my chocolate milk. My mother sent me an article in the mail about drinking chocolate milk within 1 hour of completing a workout. Makes sense because my old workout partner (who was a trainer at one point) use to drink chocolate milk before and after working out. Something about Carbs and Protein.

Until next time,  I don’t know when that will be, be good and be safe.

PX90 Reviews: Kenpo X

I did Kenpo X yesterday morning. I I always enjoyed the workout because it was the only one that went by the quickest. The PX90 program is great, however at this point I just need to be doing something. If I do Kenpo 3 times a week that’s better than nothing. right?

PX90 Reviews: It’s been awhile

Hello gang. Well after no hiking this summer and no working out my hip doesn’t bother me but then again I’m not doing anything to warrant discomfort. I did Chest and Back last Monday and then Shoulders and Arms last Wed of the PX90 for old time sakes. I think this blog is probably going to go to the way side unless I either get a dose of… I want to work out or I find somebody to take over the blog for me.

Looks like I failed the PX90. Not me not now that’s what I’m saying to this workout for now. Maybe one day I’ll pick it up again. So until then, good luck to all of you who attempt and complete the program.

PX90 Hip Update

I went to the hip doctor again yesterday. That was the third time I’ve gone. Since the first time my flexibility and hip strength has greatly increased. I walked on a treadmill for 15 minutes at an 8% grade without incident. The odd thing was that my right glutes, the lower part of my right butt cheek, felt odd. It didn’t hurt it felt as though I was doing lunges. The physical therapist said I was feeling that because up until now (and from the time I hurt my hip) I haven’t been using that muscle. I’ve been walking in a non productive, and rather destructive, manor. That’s crazy!

So the PX90 has been on hold for nearly a month now as I haven’t wanted to agitate my hip. The doctor told me yesterday that I should go on a moderate hike to see what happens. Yay! I replied. So early next week I’m going hiking, assuming all goes well I’ll start on phase II (week 5) of PX90 in a week or so.

I’m looking forward to getting back to it. I finally got my spare AC back from my friend, so doing workouts in 90 degree weather shouldn’t pose a problem.

PX90 on Hold, Doctors recommendation

I went to a physical therapist last week regarding my hip. I had never been to one before so the whole thing was new to me. The doctor examined my back as I attempted to touch my toes, “Oh geesh” she said. Then she told me to raise my left knee to my chest, then the right. “Hmm”, she sighed. At this point I asked her what the problem was. She explained that a muscle near my tail bone, on the right side, was locked up. This would certainly cause strain to both the right and left hip.

She had me lie on this hard bed as she tested the strength of my hips and legs. After about 5 minutes of that my right hip was hurting. She did some maneuvers to “unlock” the locked muscle. Apparently that worked cause I had more range of motion when she was done.

She gave me some hip exercises to do for the next week. She also gave me some hamstring exercises. Apparently I have EXTREMELY tight hamstrings which was also aid the problem. So a few exercises to be performed multiple times a day, going back this week to get an ultra sound. The hip muscle is inflamed so something about the ultra sound will alleviate the inflammation. Quite honestly I don’t know how it all works but I do know this: She told me no hiking or unnecessary stress on the hips for a month.

The question one should ask is what is unnecessary… Well being that PX90 is extreme, I would have to think Plyometrics, the leg portion of Legs & Back, the kicking portion of Kenpo X, and Ab Ripper X are unnecessary. Starting today I’m skipping those workouts and/or routines until the doctor and/or think I am fit to continue them.

I will be substituting those workouts with Stretch X, it seems fitting that I should increase my stretching as part of the reason I’m in this mess is due to insufficient flexibility. Alas, I am angry that I have taken 2 weeks off from working out and now I am on the injured list. I can’t hike. Boo Hoo.
